Throughout the years I've build different instruments, where majority of it are classical guitars. Possibly because I also play bit classical guitar I always found classical guitar sound interesting. Last years I've also build several steel string guitars and interesting enough development of sound on my classical guitars that I worked on, is very much applicable to steel string instrument. Example of my latest classical guitar is shown below. Actually I've built two of these guitars that look exactly same. One is build in traditional way (soundboard with seven struts) and other is double-top soundboard. As this is my first double top I had to convince myself that double tops are worth making. At the end I'm very positive about this double-top and will also include double tops to my guitar portfolio. Back and sides, fingerboard and bridge are from exceptional old wood (macassar ebony) that I bought from furniture maker. Soundboard of traditional guitar is German spruce and from double-top German spruce and Nomex laminate. I typically build guitars with matching arm rest as I got rather positive feedback on these. Tuners used on these guitars are from Kris Barnett.
Another interesting guitar is dovetail classical guitar. For years I had this idea to create guitar with the woodworking dovetail joint. I got also inspired by steel string guitar build (Klapper guitars), however instead of using router and making real dovetail cuts, I came with idea to inlay the dovetails. This was rather challenging process, especially for the sides. Basically each dovetail is cut out of wenge wood and inlayed into maple. Thickness of inlay 0.7mm, which allowed to glue soundboard and back halfs in traditional way, maintaining strength of the joint. Sides I first bended and then in separate jig glued together, as I was afraid that glued half of sides will loosen up. Once bended, I reinforced it by maple strip. Tuners used on these guitars are hand-made tuners from Scheller.
Steelstring Guitars
Bellow I've included one of my last steelstring guitars, these are small jumbo models. This specific example is with beautiful torrified adirondack, rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and rosewood bridge. Rosette is handmade from some special burl. Tuners are Schertler tunes (Swiss made).
